This lady knows how to inspire, African style. She talked to us a bit more about her style and ministry.
1. Tell us a bit more about your music and style
I am Tosinger. I started singing in the church as a worship leader and in my college fellowship where the nickname, ‘Tosinger’, was coined by a friend. My full first name is Oluwatosin (short form - Tosin) which means “God is worthy to be worshiped” in my local dialect, Yoruba. The merge of ‘Tosin’ and ‘Singer’ became ‘Tosinger’.
My music is inspirational. Genre wise, my style is African, roots, ethnic, folksy and soulful with a contemporary edge. I incorporate my native Yoruba language in my songs. I am from Ogun state, Nigeria, West Africa currently based in Atlanta, Georgia USA.
2. How has God influenced your life to get to where you are now?
God caught me very early. I gave my life to Christ at such an early age, and since then I have been growing in faith, maturing with a consciousness of the power of God’s love and the effectiveness of His word. I spent my young adulthood as a worship leader in church and in my university fellowships where a lot of spiritual development took place in me. God has shaped my whole being from then till now, to be in tune with things of the spirit, and without Him I won’t be where I am today.
3. What is the purpose behind your music?
The main purpose behind my music is to inspire, to encourage, to uplift. I want people to hear the chords, the lyrics, the music and be moved to action in their spirit and soul. Action to love, to love God and their neighbors, to live meaningfully, to be earthly relevant and be heavenly minded.
4. What is your greatest inspiration?
God, His Word – the Bible, His creation – nature, the beauty that surrounds us, family, friends and life experiences in general.
5. Where can people buy your music and see you perform?
My debut EP tagged ‘Finally’ which contains 6 tracks of worship music in genres of AfroGospel, Reggae, Ambient Worship & Spoken Word is available on CDBaby, iTunes & Amazon or physical copies can be ordered on my website at www.tosinger.com My AfroSpire demo project is available on iTunes and Bandcamp.
I perform locally in churches, festivals and events. I am looking to expand my stage/music presence internationally in the nearest future by God’s grace.
Proverbs 4:18, one of my favorite scriptures says, “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day”
